The upgrade of items is a crucial part of gearing up your character. Upgrades increase the base damage as well as enchantments of items.

Weapon

Once the weapon is at the maximum level of upgrade, it may be rebuilt using a variety of different types of upgrades to increase certain stats or add bonuses and effects. A variety of these upgrades can be used simultaneously, and the effects vary depending on the rarity of the weapon.

There are two Blacksmiths in the game that can perform these upgrades: Blacksmith Hewg in the Church of Elleh hub area and Smithing Master Iji in the Road to the Manor Site of Grace. Both upgrade materials differ: Smithing Stones to modify the kind of damage weapons deal and Somber Smithing Stones to modify the standard weapons.

In general, it is advised to improve weapon damage first, then armour defense, then the other secondary stats as required by your build. The armor can be upgraded by visiting the Armorer NPC, and spending the appropriate currency. Most of the time, a piece of armor can be upgraded to the next level after an upgrade is applied. Most types of armor can be upgraded, however some items (such as the starter armour found in Great Sky Island) cannot.

Most armor upgrades offer a small increase to an item's base defense or strength. However, some upgrade components can provide significant enhancements to strength or defense, especially when upgrading an item that is epic.

In addition to enhancing the defense base of an item, certain upgrades also provide specific abilities that can be activated while wearing a piece of armor. These abilities can be extremely useful in combat. For instance they can boost the speed of attack or block. Certain upgrades also offer passive effects, for instance cutting down on the amount of damage taken while wearing armor or granting the ability to deflect attacks.

Based on the type of armor being used, upgrading an item could require several tries. If a player wishes to upgrade Steelclash armor into Dragonscale The first attempt will result in a brand new Dragonscale armor that has an armor base defense of 59-67. The second attempt will result in the creation of a Dragonscale armor with the base defense of between 67 and 77.

This macabre trinket appears to be influencing the inhabitants of this maze by making them more prevalent. At the moment it makes all types of mimic Xx more prevalent and gives every floor the chance of having an ebony mimic. Upgrades to this trinket cost an amount of energy.

The magic of this enchanted scepter appears to be affecting the dungeon itself which makes it more likely to generate grass and water. At the moment, this trinket makes X% of floors fill with water or grass but doesn't affect enchantments or the glyphs, cursed weapons, armor, or other items created to solve hazard rooms.

While it appears like an ordinary eye of a newt, this mystical item seems to affect your vision in ways other than simply reducing your field of view. At the moment, this trinket can increase the total health benefits of drinking potions of healing, waterskins and wells of health by X% and gives you eyesight on enemies within Y tiles. This trinket does not stack with the Increased Senses.

After completing the Mastery Cave After completing the Mastery Cave, you will be able to find Trinkets by beating Monsters and inside chests and crates in Skull Cavern. They are not available in the Mines or Volcano Dungeon.

Place the trinket into the Anvil whenever it is required to be upgraded. This will affect the trinket which is random and will either increase or strengthen its effects. You can reforge the Trinket multiple times as often as you wish, however it will always have a different effect than the one you had when you made it.

You can also enhance your Trinkets by placing them in a Magical Catalyst at the Alchemy Station. This will cost you 6 energy, but increase the power of the trinkets by a small amount.
